Description
Reliability has always been of first importance in anesthesia breathing circuits, but it becomes all the more crucial in times of highly infectious diseases like Covid-19.
Pall’s Ultipor® 25 anesthesia breathing system filters have validated virus retention capabilities, enabling extended use of Pall multi-use circuits, thus reducing medical waste and costs.
- Multiple-use anesthesia breathing circuits can be used for all procedures performed within 24 hours, if each new patient receives a fresh Pall patient kit that has a mask, an Ultipor® 25 heat and moisture exchange filter, and a filter elbow.
- Available in a variety of coaxial (single-limb) and dual-limb circuits to choose from.
- Come with four sizes of masks: one pediatric and three adult sizes (small, medium and large).
- Free of natural rubber latex.
The key feature of Pall’s multi-use circuits is the Ultipor® 25 hydrophobic filter that protects the interior of the breathing system from patient-derived contamination, allowing extended use of the machine side of the breathing system.
Pall’s Ultipor® 25 high-efficiency pleated hydrophobic anesthesia filter offers many benefits.
- Effective Barrier: It acts as an effective barrier, where the bidirectional, hydrophobic media provides protection against airborne bacteria and viruses, to more than 99.999% efficiency and liquidborne bacteria to 100% efficiency.
- Resistance to Air Flow: Approximately 3.5 cm H2O at 60L/min due to its unique, pleated, hydrophobic membrane
- Extended Circuit Life: It enables multiple patient reuse of the machine side of the anesthesia breathing circuit system and the CO2 monitoring line for up to 24 hours as long as every new patient receives a fresh Pall patient kit.
- Reduced Costs: This anesthesia filter helps lower patient treatment costs as well as purchase and disposable costs by allowing the use of Pall circuits to treat multiple patients for up to 24 hours.
- Easy Port Seal: The tethered monitoring port cap prevents detachment from the filter and easily seals the port when not in use.
- Heat and Moisture Retention: The Ultipor® 25 filter is indicated to retain physiological patient heat and humidity while providing a barrier against the transmission of bacterial/viral contaminants. Along with the Ultipor® 25, Pall’s Ultipor® 100 and BB50T breathing system filters are used to prevent the spread of infection on both patient and machine sides in breathing circuit systems.
The Ultipor® 100 breathing filter is used on the patient side of the breathing circuit in anaesthesia and intensive care ventilation. It comes with a high-efficiency pleated hydrophobic membrane that protects against microbial pathogens and cross-contamination.
Our BB50T high-efficiency pleated hydrophobic machine-side filter has also been validated for microbial filtration.
- The BB50T breathing system filter has been validated to retain Hepatitis C virus, HIV, Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Staphylococcus aureus at > 99.999%
- It has been demonstrated to display a water intrusion pressure in excess of 50 cm H2O column
Highlights:
Circuits can be used for all procedures performed within 24 hours, as long as each new patient is provided with a fresh Pall patient kit (a mask, an Ultipor® 25 heat and moisture exchange filter, and a filter elbow).

FAQs
1. For how many patients can an anesthesia breathing circuit be used?
Pall’s anesthesia circuits may be used on an unlimited number of patients within a 24-hour period, as long as every new patient receives a fresh Pall patient kit (consisting of a mask, elbow, and Ultipor® 25 filter)
2. Can the Ultipor® 25 filter be used with another breathing circuit?
The Pall Ultipor® 25 can be used with any other breathing circuit.
3. Are gas monitoring ports available with Ultipor® 25 filters?
All Pall Ultipor® 25 filters are equipped with a gas monitoring port.
4. How long can a single breathing filter be used?
The Ultipor® 25 filter has a single patient use for a maximum of 24 hours in anesthesia. The Ultipor® 100 is single patient use for up to 24 hours and can be extended till 48 hours if wet nebulization is not performed.
The BB50T can be used for up to 24 hours.
5. Why does condensation occur within breathing circuits during anesthesia?
The soda lime absorber removes a substantial amount of CO2 under low and minimal-flow anesthesia, which produces water vapor as a byproduct. Over time, the humidity levels rise and the vapor condenses on the tubes and other parts of the breathing circuit. However, the Ultipor® 25 filter is equipped to maintain its hydrophobicity and block 100% of liquid-borne contamination between the patient and the breathing system.
