Pleated Filter Cartridges

Efficient and Economical Particle Removal

Pall’s pleated filter cartridges are one of our most popular solutions for achieving exceptional filtration performance in Industrial, Life Sciences and Water applications.  Pleated filter cartridges are generally categorized as either pre-filters (rated for particulate removal) or membrane filters (rated for final filtration or microbial removal) which may be classified as either sterilizing grade or reducing grade.

There are two main geometries commonly used for pleat configuration with the Pall range:

  • Conventional fan pleat
  • Laid-over pleat (Ultipleat®)

Pall’s laid-over pleat (Ultipleat®) construction provides uniform flow distribution resulting in long service life and consistent particle control.

Emflon® PFR Membrane in Novasip™ Capsules have lower installation costs than comparable systems. Its steam sterilizing durability provides a long service life and low maintenance costs. Novasip™ filters use polyethermide because of its strong withstanding features against elevated temperature and pressure. Designed with air and vent applications Novasip™ filters can be used in a range of operating conditions.

About Pleated Filters: Pleated filters in a cylindrical filter cartridge format are manufactured using layers of pleated media including structural support layers and drainage netting layers to preserve element integrity and increased service area, respectively.   While pleated filters usually have a higher initial cost than depth filters, the high surface area of a pleated filter provides superior performance at high flow rates and reduced pressure drops. Thereby ensuring a longer service life with low operating cost, as well as reducing the housing size requirement and using fewer cartridges.

Most of Pall’s pleated filters are manufactured using element cage support and support or drainage mesh layers in addition to the media layer.  This helps to maximize the usable filtration area and provides consistent performance and long service life under high differential pressure or ‘cold start’ flow conditions.

The pleated prefilter or membrane filter cartridges can be manufactured using media of polypropylene, polyester, nylon, glass fiber, polysulfone, polyethersulfone (PES), Polytetrafluoroethylene PTFE, Polyvinylidene difluoride PVDF, or other polymeric materials.
